When an iconic entertainment venue undergoes a major expansion, leaving a crowd-favorite attraction behind isn’t an option. In our latest edition of the ‘We Are Creative Works’ series, we share the inside story of how we partnered with Fiesta Fun Center to create the biggest, 8,000-square-foot, two-story, time-traveling, dino-adventure Laser Tag experience!

Recently, venue leadership set out to expand their building to make room for a larger arcade and extra bowling lanes. However, that growth meant their existing 4,000-square-foot jungle laser tag arena—originally crafted by our team back in 2016—sat directly in the expansion path.

Rather than retiring the attraction, Fiesta Fun made a bold play: double the arena’s footprint, elevate the storytelling, and create a world even more immersive than before.

Preserving a Legacy While Scaling Up

Upgrading a high-performing attraction requires balancing what players already love with fresh, high-impact innovation.

“We loved our old laser tag. We wanted to increase the size of our arcade, so that meant laser tag was in the way. But we didn’t want to lose it, so we wanted to go bigger, better, create that experience.”

To make that vision a reality, Creative Works re-imagined the footprint to maximize capacity, throughput, and visual wow factor. The resulting arena expanded to 8,000 square feet, spanning two levels, and operating 50 laser tag vests to accommodate larger groups simultaneously.

Redefining the Launch Experience with “Time Stream Tours”

Great attractions tell a compelling story well before players fire their first shot. Instead of directing guests to watch a standard rules video on a small screen, Creative Works developed Time Stream Tours—a first-of-its-kind launch room narrative.

Players enter what appears to be a fully operational time travel agency. Rather than being passive viewers, guests become central characters in the plot. For this particular Laser Tag theme, the narrative launches players back into a prehistoric era filled with active volcanoes and roaming dinosaurs. Once players have their vest secured, an unexpected twist strands them in the past, forcing them into the arena to fight for energy bases and secure their route back home.

Custom Fabrication & Cutting-Edge Prop Engineering

Artists at Creative Works HQ (The Theme Factory) underwent detailed fabrication to create these immersive props. Bringing giant volcanic formations, raptor cliffs, and prehistoric nests to life required combining traditional sculpting techniques with modern technology.

• Full Foam-Clad Base Structures: The arena features entirely custom laser tag bases clad in high-density foam all the way down to the floor. This allows full 360-degree sculptural detail—from stalagmites and stalactites on the Lava Base to intricate, twisting roots on the Nest Base—creating natural cover and dynamic sightlines.
• 3D Printing Integration: Precision 3D-printed elements were combined with hand-carved foam structures, giving intricate props structural durability for high-traffic environments.
• Multi-Level Sight Lines: The second-floor mezzanine gives players wide vantage points across glow-in-the-dark wall murals, dynamic lighting sequences, and multi-directional target bases.

Seamless Renovation During Daily Operations

Executing a major build inside an open venue presents unique operational challenges. Creative Works installation crews worked alongside Fiesta Fun’s team to minimize downtime and keep surrounding attractions running smoothly throughout the process.
