Making Props for Knight’s Quest Mini Golf – We Are Creative Works [Episode 7]

This is the seventh episode in a series called We Are Creative Works. In these videos, we show off different projects that our talented team is working on.

My name is Martin.

I’ve been with Creative Works for about six and a half years now. I am head of the sculpture/3D/ Foam Department. I’m also a muralist.

What we’re working on right now is Knights Quest. It will be a 13 hole mini golf, kind of inspired by Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings. A lot of castles, dragons, knights, swords and weapons and all kinds of things like that. Quite a few props. A lot of foam work.

Our Design Department will propose ideas for holes and everything like that, and props. A lot of times I’m given a lot of leeway in creation of those props. All of our 3D models and props were created primarily by me in-house for our miniature golf props. Those are created in a program called Mudbox on the computer. So they’re basically sculpted on the computer.

What will happen then is we will run them on our CNC for all our foam props. Once those files come off, they’re in cross sections that we then assemble and then hard coat.

I would say a majority of this job has been almost entirely custom. We’ve done similar props for them in the past on the last project that they wanted some things tweaked. They wanted the dragons to look a little different. We’re making new dragons. We’ve made a new knight that kind of loosely resembles The Mountain from Game of Thrones.

It’s been a lot of fun to work on this project.
